This is a joke, right?
This is a joke, right? Microsoft names new consumer OS: Windows Me. This is the OS that used to be Windows Millenium, that's the upgrade to Windows 98. Let me guess... the new name for WinCE will be Mini Me?

Quote of the day:
There was once a woman who, in her youth, had a desire to
become a "great" writer. When asked to define "great", she said "I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, wail, howl in pain, desperation and anger!"
She now works for Microsoft writing error messages.

The Bush Bubble is a nice article in Slate pointing out how the rationale of the Bush campaign is based almost wholly upon circular logic. When you dig just a bit, it evaporates.
It's bad enough that Gary
It's bad enough that Gary Bauer's campaign is dead, as evidenced by his 1% showing in New Hampshire (he came in behind "others"). But it looks like in order to even get on the ballot in Indiana, he had to enlist the help of actual dead people.

Via ST: an excellent explanation of how Fannish speech differs from that of "mundanes". Given the overlap I've seen between techies and fans, this would be useful for those who need translation help.
Good News, Bad News: Apple
Good News, Bad News: Apple said at Macworld Expo that they would (finally!) support Java 2 on the Mac... but only for OS X. In other words, a year from now, Apple will finally support what everyone else has had for a while now.
