There's been a big push
There's been a big push by the Bush campaign over the last few days to depict the US military as "hollow," or "in decline." If you're worried, and wondering if the armed forces are still up to the job of protecting the US, read Apocryphal Now, an article from The New Republic that details the incredible strength of the US military (which I think is a good thing), discusses the weaknesses, and says what remains to be done to make the military more efficient.

In Parting shots, Michael Caton writes about the vampires who assume that because you write about tech, you don't have anything better to do than to do their job for them. Oddly enough, those folks never seem to want to pay you the salary they're earning, either.

I blogged this site a few months ago, but it's changed its name since; Practically Networked is a great site that deals with sharing your high-speed home Net connection (lots of reviews of home routers for your DSL and cable modems). It also has stuff on how to network your home; safe serving; and tips on security.
Thanks for all the email
Thanks for all the email about the earthquake. We're all fine, and none of us noticed a thing, although Tom & I were both awake at the time and we're only about 50 miles or so from the epicenter.
