Waterside Productions throws an annual
Waterside Productions throws an annual conference for the Computer Book industry. Last year, I whined at them because their online registration form was so crappy. This year's solution: no more online registration; instead, you have to email them requesting a registration form, get it back as an attachment via email, fill out the form (it's an MS Word doc), and send it back to them as an attachment. Bring back the crappy online registration!
There's a reason they're not my book agents anymore.
Register reports: American men ditch
Register reports: American men ditch sex for PCs. Whew--good thing I live with a Mac user. Of course, the article is actually about men and all their consumer electronics gadgets, but based on past experience, some guys need a GPS unit to find an erogenous zone.
WebReview covers Web Standards Project:
WebReview covers Web Standards Project: The Wasp is Back, Stinger and All. It's nice to see someone get it right (and yes, I'm quoted in it, too).
It's getting harder to cash
It's getting harder to cash in frequent-flier rewards. Here's some strategies to beat the airlines.

If you come to visit us, we're likely to take you out to dinner here. Tom & I both say: Yum.
The Chicago Tribune reports that
The Chicago Tribune reports that authors become addicted to checking on-line sales rankings of their books. Silly authors... don't they know that that's what the Books & Writer's rank monitoring service is for? (Link via Lake Effect)
Okay, we're officially weblog sluts
Okay, we're officially weblog sluts now (or at least I am). If you like this site, please consider voting for us for the First Annual Weblog Awards. We think that the categories that we fit under best are "Best Group or Community Weblog" and "Best-kept-secret Weblog," but your imagination's the limit.
And so long as I'm being a complete glory slut, SF Women on the Web are once again accepting nominations for the Top 25 Women on the Web. Nominations close January 15. You know what to do.

Quote of the day:
Wise women learn from their mistakes. Wiser women learn from other people's mistakes. The wisest women learn from others' successes.

My grandmother died last week,
My grandmother died last week, and I've added the eulogy I did for her to the Essays page of my personal site. There's also a link to the (better) eulogy I did a few years ago for my sister Pattie. For some reason (maybe because I'm the oldest son, which matters to us Italians, or maybe because I'm the writer in the family), I've become the family's designated hitter for eulogies.
Al pointed to an Atlantic
Al pointed to an Atlantic article that says Historically speaking, the "ancient" rituals of the Goddess movement are almost certainly bunk. I thought that the article itself was almost entirely bunk, and I posted my opinion here.
And on another Al topic, he followed my link here last week to Jean's article. Her post then triggered his story of His First Time. I gotta say... I'm blessed just getting to hang out with these people, both virtually and face to face.
It's New Year's Day, so
It's New Year's Day, so we're watching the marathon.
I've just run across FindLaw's
I've just run across FindLaw's reviews of The West Wing written by a former real West Wing staffer. It's interesting to see the mistakes he thinks they make, though he seems to have a bit of a tin ear for the dramatic and budgetary requirements of a weekly TV show.
Washington Post says that Bush
Washington Post says that Bush may be an animatronic robot. I want to see the pictures that they didn't include in the online version of the piece.
