Via mrbarrett.com, this article reviews the latest version of Mac OS X. One of the more interesting things about this review is that they never say where they got this version of the product, which reminded me of this dirty little secret: every OS X book released day and date will either be (a) wrong, (b) based on pirated software, or (c) both (a) and (b).
Apple has made it really clear that they don't like people writing about their not-yet-released stuff. Thankfully, I'm not writing about OS X, or I'd be lying awake nights worrying that the Apple employee who gave me my pirated version was themselves given a "special author version" with just enough wrong to completely mess up a book.

I remember that in college, I was told that the hindbrain was in charge of the four F's: feeding, fighting, fleeing, and reproduction. That's a little better description than "grunting and pointing."
Or, I suppose we could always go for the cliche' right/left brain division.

Let's see... According to the previous post, Dori is responsible for creative thought and I'm in charge of grunting and pointing. No, I can't see why I'd have any issues with that division of duties...

Cooooool! Based on this screen shot, this weblog is one of Dave Winer's favorites. He told me so at Builder.com, but I wasn't sure if it was just "Oh yeah, I read your site, too" talk. So then, why doesn't he ever link to us? Huh?
Actually, the conversation was "Dori... you're Backup Brain!"
"Actually, just half of Backup Brain... which I guess, makes me, maybe, the forebrain?"
When I repeated this to Tom later, he wasn't sure if he liked the idea that that left him as the hindbrain. Gotta think more about this one.

I did not know that Lisa Schmeiser had a weblog (although obviously, I do now).
Where do you go to
Where do you go to find a pair of Freudian slippers? A Vincent Van Gogh beanie babie (with detachable ear)? A watch that actually keeps track of New York minutes? I'd try The Unemployed Philosophers Guild. (Via MemePool)

RIP: Hoyt Curtin, 78, composer of classic cartoon theme songs for darn near all the cool Hanna-Barbera series of my youth, including "The Flintstones," "Jonny Quest," "Josie and the Pussycats," "Yogi Bear," "Huckleberry Hound," "Quick Draw McGraw," and "The Jetsons." Check out the lyrics for these themes on the Rhino Records site. Alien Abductions Incorporated says
Thousands of individuals are abducted by extraterrestrial beings each year. Who do the aliens choose, and why haven't they chosen you?
So why wait? Why wonder if they're ever going to come for you? Why even invest the time, trouble, and expense involved in an actual abduction when the highly trained and professional staff at Alien Abductions Incorporated can provide you with personalized, realistic memories of the alien abduction that you have been waiting for your entire life?

Look fast: today's Macworld Feature of the Day is my review of Late Night Software's Script Debugger.
I just finished reading "Bobos
I just finished reading "Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There" by David Brooks. I found it fascinating. Over the last year (since we moved) I've considered myself to be a middle-class dropout from society, and I read this book and found out that I was actually living the upper class goal. Here I thought I was rebelling, and I was really just acting out my part in a stereotypical drama.
I thought it was a very interesting book, and I'd like to talk about it with someone who's read it, or read a good critique of it. Any suggestions?
BTW, "Bobo" stands for "bourgeois bohemian"--which I guess I am, based on the evidence.

Jeffrey Zeldman points to the Health and Racquet Club, and notes that the site (so far as can be told) objects to every browser known to man. My guess: the developer charged the client for the project, and claimed that it was a wonderful site, so long as you saw it in a 100% standards-based browser.
