In The New Republic, Deja W. and Goodbye Sunshine detail the mess that Dubya and Jeb Bush have made of Texas and Florida with their fanaticism for tax cuts. I need a Java programmer to work with me on a short term, work for hire contract gig. The pay is moderate, and the work should be a walk in the park for someone who really knows their stuff. If this sounds like you (or someone you know), please contact me for more info.

I once had the great good fortune to be present at a reading he did, in 1994, of selections from "Le Morte d'Arthur". It was put on by The English Speaking Union, Los Angeles chapter, in someone's living room. Yes, it was a good sized room, but the furthest seat (read: folding chairs and dining room chairs) was about ten feet from him. I'd guess there were maybe fifty people there.
It was truly an amazing experience, and something that I'll always be thrilled that I was privileged to attend. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

It looks like we're not the only Junkyard Wars addicts. Todd from Flutterby also saw the episode that featured amphibious vehicles, and pointed towards Dutton Marine as the place to go to get one. The price is steep (and if you're in California, like us, you have to supply your own Suzuki Samurai and ship it to the UK), but it'd be way cool to drive around the Russian River.
