I take back what I said yesterday. Tara did point to the alternate Google searches last week, but under the title Google Adds New Languages, Spanish Translation Tech, so I skipped it.
Based on that article, though, I was also able to find the Swedish Chef and Pig Latin searches to go with yesterday's Elmer Fudd and Hacker.

As just one more example of Bush's failure to understand that he does not have a mandate to swing the country hard right, here's info on his nominee to the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

I was talking to a friend recently about a mutual acquaintance whom my friend thinks is agoraphobic but whom I think has obsessive-compulsive disorder. Here's a link to the articles I read a few months ago that made me start suspecting OCD.

Tobacco companies contributed $8.3 million
Tobacco companies contributed $8.3 million to campaigns last year, 83 percent of it going to Republicans. This is what that money bought: Bush Seeks Settlement in Tobacco Case. The federal government spends more than $20 billion/year treating tobacco-related illnesses. Looks like the tobacco folks got a great deal from the politicians they've bought.
Speaking of the Patients' Bill
Speaking of the Patients' Bill of Rights, here's a side-by-side comparison of the bill presented by the Dems and the competing GOP/Bush plan. Note these four features of the Democratic bill:
- Prohibits health plans from using financial incentives to limit medically necessary services.
- Requires health plans to provide for prompt payment of claims for covered benefits.
- Plans cannot punish providers who advocate on behalf of their patients, or who assist their patients in the utilization review or appeals process.
- Prohibits plans from providing compensation to employees for encouraging denials.
The GOP plan has no provision for any of these. Which approach would be better for you and your family? Consider a phone call to the office of your state's Senators. If you need the phone number, find it here.
The Democrats have built a
The Democrats have built a site to support the Patients' Bill of Rights that's now before the Senate. They have a webcam set up in their media center. I see that they have an iBook front and center; it made me wonder if Mac users are more likely to be Democrats. I remember that Gore used a PowerBook until his second term, when he switched to a Wintel notebook. When he was asked about it, he complained that he missed his Mac. Probably most of the Mac users I know are registered Democrats or of a left-of-center political persuasion. Of course, then there's Dori, who's a registered Libertarian. But she and I still see eye-to-eye on most of the important issues. Now, if I could just convince her that using a Mac and supporting universal health care go together...

A friend asked me today
A friend asked me today how my wrist and arm are doing, and I figured that she probably wasn't the only one interested.
The answer is, bad, and getting worse. It's at the point now where if I wear a full-size brace, I'm pain-free. If I take off the brace, and do nothing else, I start to hurt after about an hour or two.
My guess at this point is that I'll be wearing a brace for the foreseeable future, but I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday that will hopefully tell me more.
