Some people around here have previously made fun of me for purchasing a $250 programmable remote control for the home theater setup. Though I note that she doesn't have any trouble using said remote. I should point out that I do have boundaries to my gadget mania, and here's an example: The ProntoPro is the higher-end, color version of the remote that I own. It's $1,000. That's way beyond my safety limits.

If you're interested in how communication evolves, check out this article from the NYT. It discusses the current furor in legal circles about where to put legal citations in documents. It's another skirmish in what Virginia Postrel calls the battle between "stasists" and "dynamicists."

Blogger broke today, which means
Blogger broke today, which means that I can't use it now in the way to which I've become accustomed.
What I want to do is pay someone (anyone!) money and have it work again. Not necessarily Blogger; I'd be willing to pay for GreyMatter or whatever, so long as it could emulate the style of work that I've gotten used to.
This is, imo, one of the biggest drawbacks of free software and web services--it drives out pay services, but doesn't take into account that some of us have more money than time (note that I'm not saying that I have lots of money, just that I have very little free time) and want our bugs fixed, asap.
The error reports I sent in are here and here, but I doubt with only one person left that they're read much. From what I can see, this has been reported by several people over the last few days.
Is anyone out there doing GreyMatter consulting? Seriously.

We're big fans of the Japanese cooking show Iron Chef, aired on the Food Network, so we reacted in horror when we heard that UPN is doing an American version with William Shatner taking the place of the revered Chairman Kaga. Over at Ain't It Cool News, they have a review from someone who attended the taping of the new show. Warning: contains many spoilers. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to find a defenseless bell pepper...
