The Blog Twinning Project (via Flutterby) is an interesting concept. It'll be interesting to see where things go.
As a true master of the obvious, I thought that CamWorld should be paired with Mr. Barrett (everyone say, "well, duh"). Go there, and say who we should be twinned with.
If you've ever thought of
If you've ever thought of doing a cruise as a vacation (we really enjoy them), this might be a good time to buy: US cruise industry nearly sunk by September 11 attacks.

Flying Pork Barrels is an
Flying Pork Barrels is an interesting take on the airline bailout that's sailing through Congress. It makes a good argument that by bailing out airlines, the country is providing a victory, albeit a small one, for the terrorists. To that I'd add: in return for this $15 billion that the US taxpayer is coughing up, how about some reasonable strings on that cash? Like eliminating nonrefundable fares? Or increasing service levels? Or requiring airline employees to stop lying about delays?

Jim Roepcke pointed to AppleScript Studio. This could be very cool, especially if there's some way to tie in JavaScript OSA.

As has been pointed out
As has been pointed out by multiple people by now, things like Code Red, Nimda, and the new W32.Vote worm aren't "Internet viruses," or "email viruses." They're Microsoft viruses. More specifically, they're viruses that can only infect and destroy within the Microsoft Windows monoculture. Now a major consultancy, The Gartner Group, has recommended that companies stop using Microsoft's IIS (their Web server), and not deploy any of the .NET technologies until Microsoft releases a completely rewritten IIS (probably not until the end of 2002). More in a story in The Register, or you can read the original Gartner alert.
If you're wondering why I'm
If you're wondering why I'm blogging messages to Tom instead of just yelling across the room (as usual), it's because I'm not there, I'm here. So, don't expect much in the way of blogging from me this week (yeah, like that doesn't usually presage an attack of bloggorhea).
Tom, if you haven't read
Tom, if you haven't read Damien's account of online attacks, you should. And then you might want to drop a line to Mel, just in case.
Hal from Blivet says thanks
Hal from Blivet says thanks to Joelle for being helpful. Glad you appreciated her, Hal--we like her, too.
And Joelle, here's some karma back at ya: go check out The New Homemaker's Own Store. I see you and Ro in matching outfits, either the Blue Leaves on Midnight Blue, or the Autumn Leaves on Black Cherry (with an applique for Ro, of course). And you'd both look darn cute, too.
Our friend and colleague Jim
Our friend and colleague Jim Heid wrote My Sister's Dead Body Is No Longer News, an article for Newsweek which was on our kitchen table when the terrorists struck. He was making an excellent point about the vacuousness of local TV news. But after the zillionth time we saw the playback of crashing planes, Jim's article seemed eerily prescient. Thankfully, the networks have stopped the endless repetition of horror.
