Okay, what is up with
Okay, what is up with all you folks in Portland Oregon, anyway? I post one thing here about going to Portland, and now I have four people I have to see in a day and a half. And I haven't even contacted a couple of old buddies that I know are there.
It looks like Hal of
It looks like Hal of Blivet has basal cell carcinoma, aka the mildest form of skin cancer. Hal, I know how you feel, our best wishes for the lab results, and be sure to stock up on the sunscreen.
This is my idea of
This is my idea of cool technology: Handheld Organizer Can Now Check Your Blood Sugar. So far as I can tell, it's a Handspring add-on (i.e., Springboard module) that allows diabetics to not just monitor their levels, but to graph and chart the data.
In honor of Netscape 4
In honor of Netscape 4 turning five years old today, Scott Andrew gives it a lovely birthday party. If you've ever wondered why I hate N4 with such a passion, go check it out. If you've ever sworn at it yourself, it's even better.
And in similar news (honestly, it wasn't timed to match, really!), The Web Standards Project has relaunched. An amazing work by an amazing group of people.About a month ago I
About a month ago I talked about doing a driving vacation, and I got lots of great feedback on my plans. Here's the latest itinerary, based on your comments:
- June 19: Healdsburg to Grant's Pass, OR (7.5 hours, 425 miles)
- June 20: Grant's Pass to Seattle, WA (7 hours, 425 miles)
- June 23: Seattle to Portland, OR (3 hours, 175 miles)
- June 25: Portland to Ashland, OR (5 hours, 300 miles)
- June 26: Ashland to Healdsburg (7 hours, 400 miles)
If you're along the route, please let me know. And btw, the play is Titus Andronicus, which appears to make Les Miz look like a musical comedy.

We're baaaack: Browsing Around for New Targets. Keep an eye out tomorrow for the relaunch of the Web Standards Project.
Over this weekend, I've written
Over this weekend, I've written proposals for eight sessions to be given at four separate events. Three talks (two events) were accepted on the spot (thanks!). Now, I just have to wait on the other two. I'm just wiped right now. Considering how varied the stuff I've been pitching is, I'll be even more exhausted if they're all accepted. But I hope they are, 'cause the two that are left would probably be the most fun. Wish me luck!
Meryl Yourish is sucking my
Meryl Yourish is sucking my brain. She just wrote a takeoff on "The Farmer and the Cowman" (from Oklahoma!, of course) called The Warblog And The Techblog. I've been working on one similar to this for a few weeks about old-time Mac users and these new-fangled UNIX people coming over to OS X, but anything I do now would just look like I was borrowing from her. Oh well.
It's especially frustrating because I'd been working on mine for weeks, and it appears that she just whipped this one out tonight... and it's still tons better than mine would have been, no matter how long I worked at it. Sigh.
And Meryl, if you ever do a BuffyBlog, let me know.I'm feeling really darn old
I'm feeling really darn old today. I pinged someone about speaking at an upcoming conference, and his reply said, in total: "I'm down with that." I must be an old fart, because I don't have the foggiest idea of if that's an acceptance or a rejection. Yeesh.
