Open letter to Nader voters

I've been accused in the past (not without reason) as being rabidly anti-Nader and anti-Green. The Salon article An open letter to Ralph Nader voters makes me look positively mild (although I have to admit that I agree with almost all of it).

Free Wi-Fi at SFO

I'd heard that T-Mobile had announced that they would be offering Wi-Fi at San Francisco airport (and about time, too!); what I hadn't heard was that, as part of a cross-promotion with Intel's Centrino technology rollout, they'll have laptops available by the food court for free usage through mid-June. You can't use your own laptop without a for-pay T-Mobile account, and they're using a limited capability branded browser on their laptops (which is why this post originally had no links), but yeah, it's free Wi-Fi at an airport, for 3 months.

Later note: if you poke around their area, you can find coupons that let you sign up for T-Mobile service with a free 30-day trial. So in theory, you can use your own laptop, but you'll have to cancel within the month if you don't want to be charged.

What I do for fun

I'm told that some people sit around on their vacations and goof off. Me? Well, tonight, I hooked up:

Don't let anyone tell you that middle America doesn't get wireless. The first two pieces of hardware were for a great-grandmother, and the last for a grandmother (the third was so that I could blog from my bedroom, one flight away from the room with net access).

I feel like the Johnny Appleseed of wireless, or something. OTOH, last night I felt like the Typhoid Mary of wireless, as everything I touched died. I didn't know that you could fry an AC adaptor, but somehow I managed. Thankfully, there's a nearby Radio Shack that happily sold me a replacement. Tonight was much better (although I'm sure that it had nothing to do with the fact that yesterday I worked on hardware before the two glasses of wine, while tonight's was after...)

WiFi in Mickey D's

Do you want bandwidth with that? McDonald's to Offer Wireless Internet. It's part of the Cometa wireless rollout. Cometa is a joint venture of AT&T, IBM, and Intel.

Cap'n Tightpants

Captain Tightpants moves to Sunnydale. Normally I'd pass this on to Dori by saying "Hey honey, look at this," but seeing that she's out of town, I'm forced to use two cable modems, two wireless networks, two laptops, a Web server in Pittsburg, and a sophisticated blogging application written in Perl. Turning my head, speaking, and pointing sure is easier sometimes.

Let's Bowl

I'm watching a show on Comedy Central called Let's Bowl. It's freaking surreal. This episode, a married couple from Minneapolis is playing against each other, with the stakes being that if she wins, he gets a vasectomy (he lost the bet). The trappings of the show are retro 50's/small market TV, with two smarmy hosts named Wally and Chopper, a live band, go-go dancers, and bizarre things like a guy in a pig costume called the Polka Pig. One of the prizes was a year's supply of herring. "Hey! It's fish in a jar!" I just checked, and I see that the show is in its second season. Where have I been?
