Blogshares out of beta

I haven't paid too much attention to Blogshares going out of beta, but somehow I ended up as #20 on the best players list and this blog as #43 on the most popular 100 stocks list. The same deal goes as before: once the shares available of this blog go to zero, anyone on the incoming link list can have 10 shares of us for the asking (and yes, if you got if before, you're still qualified for this offer).

RIP, West Wing

Oh crap! I've had months to deal with Buffy ending, but today it comes out that Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme have quit The West Wing. Dammit! Is there going to be anything worth watching on TV next year?

Jean's tour

I was able to see Jean shortly before she left for Europe. She mentioned then that she'd be keeping in occasional touch with people via email, and I told her to forget about that, that she should just update her weblog whenever she had a chance and tell everyone to check in there. Looks like she's taking my advice. And yes, Harrods was my suggestion for a good place to see—what can I say?

Bluetooth Print Bridge

According to the Bluetooth Print Bridge page, if I use their software ($20), I can print from my cell phone to my USB printer, via my Bluetooth-equipped Mac. I gotta check this out.

How-to tapes

If you've always wanted to know how to weld, or how to operate a lathe, or if you just wish you were qualified to be on "Junkyard Wars," you gotta check out Technical Video Rental. Yep, video tape rentals of the type you just can't find at Blockbuster. They've got top hits such as "Operating a Horizontal Milling Machine" and "Building a Stirling Hot Air Engine."

Welcome to Hooverville

A worthwhile, though depressing article: George Walker Hoover? - President Bush is on track to match Herbert Hoover's record of job destruction. From Slate.

Random name generator

If you're ever writing documentation and you need a bunch of names for a list, check out the Random Name Generator. It uses the US Census, and you can pick whether you want males, females, or both, and how common you want the names to be.

Discouraging piracy the Apple way

Well, I guess that's one good way to discourage music piracy. When you purchase music from the new Apple Music Store, the song gets stamped with your name, as shown below. After downloading and installing iTunes 4 and QuickTime 6.2, the actual purchase process was very easy. The store is kind of slow at the moment, probably because it's being hit hard by the curious (like me!). At only $1 per song and $10 per complete album, I can absolutely see purchasing music this way.

Not just Alabama!

Remember my post a few days ago on how Bush might not be on the Alabama ballot? Well, it's not just there! According to the Washington Post's piece Bush May Be a Write-In On More Than One State Ballot, it's also a problem in California, West Virginia, and DC. Idaho and Indiana have already moved their cutoff dates to accomodate the Republicans. Snicker.
