A Dean primer
This article is a pretty good overview of Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean. At this point, he's still the most interesting candidate for me of the Democratic lineup.Starship Dimensions
Reminder to self: if I ever get access to a large-format color printer, go back to Jeff Russell's Starship Dimensions and print out their charts. Starships from all types of SF (books, movies, etc.), all done to scale.Big news from the small town
We love living in a small town, where stories like this make the front page of the local weekly: Prom crasher gets stuck in chimney at Villa Chanticleer Friday night.I've got to be joking
How to stop spam: make it a felony to buy anything from a spammer (aka Dori's crazy-ass idea of the day).
If I had a nickel for every time I've heard someone say, "Well, I heard about this deal from a piece of spam, but it was such a good deal that I had to buy it!," well, I'd have a lot of nickels. Buying goods and services from spammers just encourages them—so make it illegal to buy from them, enforce it, and the amount of spam should drop precipitously.
Kvelling
We don't just brag about our kid here, we brag about other kids that we're related to, also. And so, congratulations go out to our nieces: Kate, who just got hired at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, and Rachel, who just got accepted to Harvard Westlake School. Yay girls!Testing, testing...
This is a test of Weblog Poster. I can already see a few bugs and other things I'd like changed, but it's an interesting idea. It's all Spike's fault
Hard truth or heresy? You be the judge. Why Spike ruined Buffy the Vampire Slayer. We're all geniuses on this bus
Checking out Chris Pirillo's blog today, I was thrilled to see that we've been added to his blogroll. And not only that, but we're listed under "GeniusClicks"! How cool is that?
In return, there's a new list of blogs over to your right in the sidebar: Genius Blogs.
Pretext
Well, at least some news outlets are reporting the reality. From a Reuters story today about the shakeup of US officials in Iraq:
The Post also reported that the American military unit directing the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq is dismantling its operations and will likely leave Iraq in June.
The 75th Exploitation Task Force has so far failed to find any of the suspected biological and chemical weapons that Bush used as a pretext to launch the war against Iraq.
What struck me was the use of the word "pretext."
