Kubrick - Not Revealed
Citizen Kubrick is a fascinating story about the way that Stanley Kubrick lived and worked. Via Paul Music.Radio reminder
Reminder: we'll be on the air with Inside Mac Radio from 2-3 pm Pacific today. Follow the link to listen to us online. If that link doesn't work, try this one.Karen Sisco's back - for 3 episodes
A few weeks ago, I bemoaned the cancellation of Karen Sisco, one of the best new TV series this year. The show was cancelled with three episodes still unaired, and those episodes are being burned off on the cable USA Network the next three Wednesdays at 10 PM. If you were a fan of the show, check them out. And if you never saw it, they're still worth watching.Looking for one good superhero
The Marines may be looking for a few good men, but the Air Force is looking for Spiderman. While the RFQ (Request For Quote) doesn't specify who supplies the costume, it looks like a pretty good gig if what you're looking for is a whirlwind tour of Europe.Condi won't testify under oath
In this article, Republican lawmakers seek to discredit Clarke , the point that I find interesting isn't made until most of the way down the page. Condoleezza Rice is willing to publically talk to the press, and she's willing to privately talk to the 9/11 panel—but what she won't do is talk to anyone under oath.
But [Al Felzenberg, a spokesman for the commission] said the "commission needs to discuss" Rice's insistence that she not be required to testify under oath.
A source familiar with the commission's operations told NBC News that the panel has consistently required anyone rebutting sworn testimony to be similarly under oath.
Why will she talk to the commission, but not under oath? Is she planning on going in and lying? Is it because she has something truthful to say that will disagree with her past sworn testimony and doesn't want to be obviously guilty of perjury? What other options are there? Is there any reason for being willing to testify so long as it isn't under oath that doesn't make her automatically sound guilty of something?
We're on the radio
Dori and I will be co-hosting the Inside Mac Radio show, with host Scott Sheppard, tomorrow at 2 PM Pacific time. We'll be on for the whole hour. Broadcast coverage of the live show is spotty, but you can listen to a live stream during the show (ironically, this is a Windows Media stream; no QuickTime stream available yet). Or you can download the whole show after the fact from the show's page.iVisit
The biggest drawback of iChat was that it didn't work with Windows. Now that the new version of iChat is out, though, iChat's biggest drawback is that you can only video chat with one person at a time. If that's a problem, you might want to check out iVisit. $40/year, Windows or Mac, multiple people or one-to-one. I haven't tried it myself yet, but there's a free lite version, too. From PCWorld, Is Bluetooth Better on the Mac?: A head-to-head comparison of Bluetooth on Windows and the Mac shows that there's something to the Mac mystique.
Given how much room there is for BT to improve on a Mac, it's scary to think that it's even worse on Windows.
Interactive Fiction via chat

iChat AV 2.1 final is out. Time to see if any of the issues I discussed here have been fixed. I gotta say, though, that having to restart my computer just to install an update to iChat is (imo) ridiculous.Blogging satellites
I've blogged here before about fictional characters with blogs, but now it's non-fictional, non-sentient objects with blogs. Although if you read them, they'll definitely object to being referred to as non-sentient. Check 'em out, and not just for the space geeks among us:
- Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE)
- Solar and Heliospheric Observatory Satellite (SOHO)
- Geosynchronous Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES)
- Hubble Telescope
- Stardust: here or here?
- Opportunity
- Spirit Rover
- Lavochkin M-71 (05252)
- Venera 14
- Sojourner
- Voyager
- Voyager 2
- Cassini
- Contour
- Beagle 2: here or here?
Given the topics discussed, I'm guessing that they're either being written by folks at JPL (or the equivalent) or someone equally knowledgeable. Which doesn't mean that they don't get off-topic occasionally. If you only read one link in this entry, let it be this one, wherein FUSE says:
Can any of you folks reading this tell me about the SCA? I'm thinking of joining as a self-aware Viking longship.and much discussion ensues.
Design Eye for the StartUp Guy Contest
Design Eye for the StartUp Guy Contest: design a cover for Guy Kawasaki's new book The Art of the Start and win a Canon Digital Rebel camera. The deadline is April 15th.You, hey you! Yes, you. Read this.
Confidential to the person who sent me email this weekend asking me a question about Safari. I responded, but as I'm not sure that the last few emails I sent you were received, I wasn't sure that this one would be either. As you mentioned in your email that you read this blog regularly, I figured I'd mention here that yes, I did answer your question, so if it was you and you didn't get my reply, let me know and I'll see if there's a better way for me to get email through.
If this isn't you, never mind.
