Radio Buffy

A reminder for myself, upcoming on KRCB Radio 91: A Radio Tribute to a Television Fave:
Friday, April 30 at 8 pm to 2 am
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which ended its seven year run on commercial television least year, was a metaphor for surviving high school, a slashing parody of both culture and counter-culture, a three-hanky soap opera, a kung fu action ride, a laugh track-free sitcom, and a manifesto on woman power. Of course, music played a huge role in the series — from the use of scoring, to the appearance of upcoming live bands, and known rock songs sprinkled throughout many an episode. On April 30 at 8 pm, join KRCB hosts Rosa Corn, Hillary Culhane, Mark Nicholas and Gary Sherwood to explore the musical musings of Buffy and how they are virtually inseparable from the scripting of this series.
For those of you who aren't lucky enough to live here, it appears that you can listen to this online.

BluePhoneMenu

Software I should check out: BluePhoneMenu 1.0.
BluePhoneMenu is a small application that adds Caller ID functionality to your menu bar and desktop using your Bluetooth enabled phone.
Free, too. I'll be interested to see if or how well it works with Salling Clicker.

NAB report

Because I said that I would, here's the Shorter NAB Show report: Show: Big. Really freaking big. Feet: Hurting. Big time. Ow. Booth babes: Hot. Very hot. Let's hear it for red latex catsuits. Las Vegas in general: Still tacky. Buffets (sample size=2): Surprisingly good (shrimp overdose). Hookers: Spotted several on the Strip, suspected one at the MGM Grand, noted the dozens of pages devoted to the business in the Yellow Pages (listed under "Entertainers"). Emeril's Fish House in the MGM Grand: Overpriced, yet yummy. Excellent service. Did I mention overpriced? Gambling: I won $100 at video poker on a $1.50 bet (first hand, too). I kept playing until my balance was down to $90, then cashed out. Borg Encounter 4D: We were completely assimilated. Apple's new Motion app: Awesome. Possibly the death knell for After Effects. Final Cut HD: Free upgrade! Back in Healdsburg tonight.

#2 in a continuing series of watching Nader in the polls. This one's from Zogby:

Kerry 47%
Bush 44%
Undecided 7%

or

Kerry 45%
Bush 45%
Nader 3%
Undecided 6%
Once again, Nader takes away Kerry's lead.

New PowerBooks

Just because it's a rumor doesn't mean that it has to be wrong: Apple announces new PowerBook G4s. They run at 1.33 and 1.5 GHz, but nothing else is terribly new about them that I can see at first glance. But I no longer have the latest and greatest...<whimper>.

Thou shalt have no other bloggers here

Things like this just crack me up: Xeni at Boing Boing quotes someone (with a bad link) as saying:

LostRemote's Cory Bergman says: A couple of us are blogging from TV's largest annual convention, NAB-RTNDA, in Vegas all week. We're the only site blogging the event, and we'll post the most forward-thinking ideas and the most promising new technology.

"We're the only site blogging the event"??? How the hell would they know? Did they talk to every single attendee, and make them promise that they wouldn't blog? Did they cut a deal with NAB to get an exclusive? If they did, they should get their money back.

Tom's there and has everything he needs to blog live (if he wanted to), and, to the best of my knowledge, hasn't signed anything saying that he's agreed that he won't blog. So where do these bozos get off claiming that they're the only ones? What a bunch of twits.

D & D collection on eBay

This post is for Sean: Jim Roepcke is selling what looks like a pretty darn big D & D collection on eBay. Sean, if it looks interesting to you, let me know. Jim, if no one bids, let me know.

New Apple products

Tom's on the road to NAB today (poor boy—had to go Las Vegas without his wife) so he'll want to know that Apple today announced: And of course, there's still the rumor-mongering about new PowerBooks...
