The Sad Song

Here's an amazing music video in QuickTime format (warning: 35MB download, but worth it): The Sad Song. The artist shot the video using the silent motion JPEG mode in his Nikon Coolpix, which gave him 15 second clips. Then he synced it all up and stuck it all together in AfterEffects. He says more about the process here. Thanks to Paul Music for pointing me at this one.

W is for Women?

I said a couple of days ago that Lynn was working on something cool, and now it's launched, so go check it out: W Stands for Women?!
A few days ago, we noticed that the GOP's outreach campaign to female voters for BushCheney '04 is...

W Stands for Women

And we thought to ourselves, excuse us? In what POSSIBLE way does W stand for Women?! Other than in the strict alphabetical sense, that is. Why stop at "women" when there are SO MANY other things that W is for. Here is our list.

Scare Tactics

If you vote for the GOP, the terrorists will have won: The latest in a long line of statements from the Bush administration trying to keep the fear level high before the election comes from the Homeland Security Secretary: Ridge says al Qaeda planning attack. The subhead is "Terrorists' aim is to influence presidential vote, security chief says." Is this guy calling himself a terrorist?
Ridge cited "recent interdictions" for the new warning. He said U.S. officials have no precise knowledge of the time, place or method of attack, but said they are "actively working to gain that knowledge."

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tennessee, speaking before the briefing, said the intelligence was "very non-specific" and there was "no reason for panic, no reason for paralysis."
They're also not even raising the color-coded threat level, which they've done whenever they need a political boost. So this one pretty much keeps the threat level at Brown, the color of bullshit.

Spamalot! (it's only a model)

Coming to Broadway next February, it's Monty Python's Spamalot, "the musical lovingly ripped off from the motion picture, 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail'." With David Hyde Pierce as Sir Robin, Tim Curry as King Arthur, and Hank Azaria as Sir Lancelot.

We are so there. Somehow.

Via the always amazing Lynn, who's working on something very cool that I should be able to talk about soon.

You know, I realized that I hadn't posted here in a week. Just not in that blogging headspace, I guess. OK, done now.

5 Moose for Tom!

The Alaskan Apple Users Group has reviewed Tom's recent eBook, Take Control of What's New in Entourage 2004, and given it a rating of "Five Moose out of Five (Terrific!)". Ya gotta love user groups.

Kerry/Edwards QOTD

Our Kerry/Edwards Quote of the Day, from The Rude Pundit, via Value Judgement:
Here's the things about Edwards the trial lawyer: he was on the side of the good guys against corporations, as he writes in his autobiography, including the case of "Valerie Lakey, the 5-year-old injured by a swimming pool drain [that had sucked out her intestines] whose manufacturers had not only ignored previous injuries caused by the drain but had also failed to warn purchasers that tiny errors in installing it could prove deadly." A good trial lawyer is a son of a bitch on behalf of the little person; he's a mean, vicious motherfucker who will rip out the spinal cords of corporate lackeys and their whore attorneys and leave them paralyzed, immobile, unable to do anything but weep and pay damages. And Edwards brings the noise even when he's questioning a judge. Here's the National Review, appalled, appalled, at how Edwards went after Charles Pickering in a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. The article concludes with, "A man willing to do what he did to Pickering might not be quite the good guy he says he is." And the answer to that is that you don't want your trial lawyer to be a good guy when he's in court. You want him to be an eviscerating monster, prepared to lay waste to those who think they are entitled to crush you.
Or in other words, yeah, we like the Edwards pick. A lot.

Fahrenheit 9/11

Took some time off today from working through the weekend and went with Tom and Sean to see Fahrenheit 9/11. My opinion, as I told Tom as we exited the theater: "That was manipulative propaganda at its finest."

Alton Brown on eBay

On eBay now: Awesome Atlanta / Buckhead home "Good Eats" Alton Brown. Okay, it's not quite Alton himself, and it's not his own home, but it is the one with the amazing kitchen seen in the most recent season. Even better: it comes with a dinner for 8 to be prepared by Alton.

Now, if it only they were throwing in the papier-mâché chicken...

Declaration of Independence

A couple of borrowed links in honor of the 4th:

Susan pointed me to this lovely site about the Declaration of Independence.

Kicking Ass, the DNC Blog, pointed to Declare Yourself, a site to encourage voter participation and registration. The bit you should really check out is the "Declaration Reading" link in the lower-right side. Morgan Freeman and a bunch of other well-known actors read the Declaration out loud, as it should be done. Highly recommended, and not just for today.
