Campaign Tracking Dashboard

Yes, it is possible to be more over the top than Tom or me in keeping track of election news. For an example, check out this Campaign Tracking Dashboard. It rates what words the candidates are using, how much mud they're slinging, and so on.

A real Blue Tooth

Looks like Dori might have more to write about in the next edition of Mac OS X Unwired: A Blue Tooth Implant mentions a prototype of a 512 MB flash drive that's Bluetooth-enabled, is in the shape of a real tooth, and can be implanted.

eMac vs G5

Here's a review that I would not have thought of doing: eMac 1.25GHz vs. Power Mac G5 Dual 2.0 GHz. Turns out that there isn't that much difference in everyday work (Web surfing, word processing, Quicken, etc) between the two machines. What you get for the 3X price with the G5 is greatly increased speed on processor-intensive tasks like video compression. If you don't do that, or much of that, the eMac may be just fine for you. Makes me wonder if I really need to upgrade from my current desktop machine, a Power Mac Dual 1.0 GHz G4, to the Dual 2.5 GHz G5 that's backordered. Of course, the eMac doesn't allow the use of a bigger monitor. I'd feel lost without my 20" flat-panel. By the way, that monitor is made by Dell; they have incredible deals on big LCD monitors.

Best Help Wanted Ever

Best help wanted ad ever: Cold Fusion/SQL Server programmer needed. I'll bet you dollars to donuts that the people giving the original poster flack have never been a boss themselves. And they've definitely never tried to work with contract programmers.

She did leave off two of my favorites, though: Mac users who claim that they've missed their deadline because a virus destroyed their system, and people who use Burning Man as a two-month excuse to not get any work done. Snicker.

Kerry Unveils One-Point Plan For Better America

Dan Steinberg pointed me towards this article: Kerry Unveils One-Point Plan For Better America
Delivering the central speech of his 10-day "Solution For America" bus campaign tour Monday, Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry outlined his one-point plan for a better America: the removal of George W. Bush from the White House.
From The Onion, of course. But that doesn't mean it doesn't work for me!

Making it Up

In Pants on Fire, Matthew Yglesias cuts through the BS that Bush is passing out on the campaign trail regarding Kerry's tax plans. Turns out that Bush is just making shit up. It's a common tactic for this president and his henchmen; when facts are inconvenient, they think a lie will do just fine, as long as it sounds good.

Saft 7.0 out

I guess I spoke too soon last week when I referred to Saft 6.5.8, as Saft 7.0 was released today. New features: bookmark search, history search, sidebar, block images and plugins, plus a bunch of improvements and bug fixes.

Me, I wanna go check out the sidebar.

F-A-B!

Sean and I saw Thunderbirds today (we're both fans of the 1960's show; me because I saw it when it first aired, Sean because he saw it when TechTV ran them last year). Screw the critics: the movie is fine, silly summer fun for kids and adults. The kids will enjoy the cool ships and gadgets; the adults, as long as they enjoy campy humor, will find the movie to be an agreeable way to while away 90 minutes. The acting is nothing spectacular; the plot is predictable. But it's a fun fantasy film, nothing more, nothing less. If you loved the old show, and you're not one of those annoying purist types, you'll like the movie. I did. The kids in the theater were saying good things about it as they walked out. Look for the homage-to-puppets shot when Thunderbird 1 is taking off.
