We (heart) geeky cooking shows

Today in Salon, it's TV chefs that don't bite: If you really want to learn how to cook -- as opposed to learning how to "entertain" -- stick with these two shows.

Unsurprisingly, they pick Christopher Kimball and Alton Brown as the only two TV chefs worth watching, and we agree 100%. Okay, Tom also thinks that Rachael Ray and Giada De Laurentiis are worth watching, but that's for almost-entirely different reasons.

The PaperHub

I already own cheap paper trays and a cheap USB hub, so although I need a FireWire hub, I'm not likely to go for the way-cool but too expensive PaperHub. But if you need a USB 2.0 hub + FireWire hub + Paper tray combination and you have $150 burning a hole in your pocket, it's pretty sweet looking. 4 FireWire 400 ports, 4 USB 2.0 ports, 1 power supply, 2 paper trays.

Canadian iTunes store (finally)

To our Canadian friends: congratulations on finally getting your own iTunes Store. However, we now have to hate you because on our side of the border, songs go for 99¢ (1.18 CAD) while on your side, songs go for 83¢ (.99 CAD).

Every Morning download

One of my favorite Salon features is their weekly Wednesday Morning Download column, which points to some often interesting and always free songs to download (this week's hot pick: Brian Wilson's Heroes and Villains). But this week's real score was their link to 3hive, which is a group of folks that appear to be trying to catalog all the free music available on the 'net. Lots o' goodness here.

Need a Board of Directors?

Susan Kitchens and I had a great discussion at BloggerCon about how it's hard for freelancers to get moving on projects, and she's turned that into a project: A Board of Directors for the self-employed or solo project-starters.

Are you self employed? Starting (or working on) a project in your off hours? In a situation where you could use some structure between NOW and THEN (now being this very minute and then being some future moment: Launch, Payoff, The Deal, or whatever form of the Realization of the Goal)?

It's all about giving each other a kick in the seat of the pants. If you're interested, go read her write-up and drop her a line in her comments.

Good deal on Toast 6

I wanted to upgrade my copy of Roxio's Toast CD/DVD burning software, because I had an old version lying around. I went to the Roxio site, and their "deal" for upgraders is actually more expensive than the retail package at Amazon: Toast 6 Titanium. What makes it better are two $20 rebate offers from Amazon. One is for upgraders, and the other is for Amazon purchasers. They can be used together, too, for a ending price of $34.99. It's the best deal I was able to find on Toast 6. If you're in the market, check it out.

What happened to SonyEricsson phones?

We've had a variety of cell phones over the years, and most of them have been Sony Ericssons. We've been happy with them, and we have a lot of accessories that work with them. So, we're looking at getting new phones, and to our surprise, we found out that (currently) T-Mobile is no longer offering any Bluetooth-capable SE phones.

We've got a few phone geeks that read this blog, so tell us, what's up? Is SE about to ship something, but missed a date? Are SE phones on their way out? Is there a place where we can buy unlocked SE phones at a killer price? Tell us what you know or even just what you speculate.

EPIC - A media future?

Here's EPIC, an interesting speculation about the future of media and news, done as a retrospective from the year 2014. See the future of Google and Amazon, and see Microsoft get its butt kicked. It's a Flash thing. Via Paul Music.

Testing, testing

If everything's working, the comments link should have changed and titles should now be showing up on entries. Well?

Did I get it right this time?
