Things to do in Vegas

Friday night: we saw Rebo & Zooty. And if you got that reference. give yourself 5 geek points, but subtract 500 points from your chance of ever getting any.

Tonight: hey, it's Saturday in Vegas. So what are we doing? We'll be hanging out at a Catholic church. We're just wild and crazy, ain't we?

Tab Dump

Okay, one thing I can do to help myself get caught up is to close the two zillion open browser tabs that are slowing Safari way down, and therefore, making everything I do even slower. I'll dump 'em here, and then restart the browser, and everything should then be faster (oh please!). Let's see how many I can get through:

Mapping religion in America: if you like maps, there's some fascinating ones here.

Disabled Hands: Tips, Hacks and Products for those with diminished hand function. Because the way the Web allows niche marketers to flourish fascinates me.

Batch Website Link Popularity Checker:

Check how many pages indexed and how many back links to your site on search engine of Google, Yahoo, Msn, alltheweb, altavista and sympatico. You can input lists of domain names and download check report free.

Geeky Traveller: A Travel Blog for Nerds (The Geek Shall Inhabit the Earth). If I had an infinite number of hours in the day, I'd work on sites like this. All kinds of cool geeky traveling tools and tips.

• Yeah, Robert Scoble doesn't have this site in his blogroll anymore. We don't care. Why? Because his wife, Maryam, does. Hell, ask him; he'll agree that that's much cooler.

• From Tim O'Reilly, there's State of the Computer Book Market, Part 1 and State of the Computer Book Market, Part 2. Good news for people who write books on topics like JavaScript and Dreamweaver.

• From Project Seven, it's The One True Layout. Worth checking out. Yes, I know it's from April 1, but it's still worth checking out (hey, I said I was behind!).

• From SFGate.com, "Coppola in Sonoma: There goes the neighborhood." Francis Ford Coppola comes to town. Now, if we could just get him interested in paying for some naming rights

Chax: miscellaneous iChat improvements. Any of you looked at it? What do you think?

Movable Type Style Generator. We desperately need a new look here; maybe this site can give us some ideas.

manybooks.net: Free eBooks for your PDA. Now, all I need is a PDA. Or at Treo 650.

• From Making Light, a list of Hugo and Campbell finalists. Yes, it looks like we'll be at WorldCon this year. At least currently.

I Owe You Email

I owe you email… and I know it, and I apologize.

Sadly, this post isn't being written for one person, or two people, or even three people. I'm not going to mention how many people it's for, but there's a good chance that if you're reading this, you're one of them.

At the end of 2005 I was pretty close to caught up. Then I went off to Macworld Expo for the 2nd week of January and got a little behind. Then I went to Search Champs 4 for the 4th week of January, and it got a little worse.

Tom went into the hospital on February 10 (and got out on Feb. 17), and I haven't made it back to anywhere near caught up since. And taking on a rush editing job at the same time to bring in some quick cash helped the budget, but my to-do list got even longer.

March was SxSW. The beginning of April was a business trip to Tempe. Last week was taxes. And over all of that, there's been the college admissions stress. Hell, I've barely even been blogging (six times in the last three weeks?), and it takes a lot to get me to stop that.

Tomorrow, I get on a plane to go to a family wedding. When I get back, it's time for me to dive deep into JavaScript VQS 6e. But somewhere in there, I'll be responding to your email. Yes, really. No, the answer for me isn't Inbox Zero, no matter how tempting that may be.

If you don't hear from me soonish, feel free to ping me. No, you aren't hassling me; it's my own damn fault. And again, I apologize.
