Healdsburg, 1876
Susan wrote a post, Late 1800s panorama maps of American Cities, and mentioned us:
Tom and Dori, I give you Healdsburg (1876)
Looking at that picture, it's amazing how little our little town has changed in some ways. In other ways, well, it's been 130 years. Want to do the comparison yourself? Check out the aerial views here and here.
50 Easy Questions to Ask Any Republican
Robert J. Elisberg, in The Huffington Post, has 50 Easy Questions to Ask Any Republican. He says:
Anyone can ask tough, intricate, confrontational questions. But all that ever does is start an argument, and it gets people nowhere. On the other hand, these are...well, easy. These are friendly questions. These are questions that allow another person to actually explain their thoughts, and explain fully. And to do so in as comfortable, as simple a way as possible.
Some of my favorites from the list:
1. What are the Top Seven best things that the Bush Administration has done?
7. Do you believe in the President's call for an Era of Personal Responsibility?
8. Since Republicans control the White House, Senate and House of Representatives, how personally responsible are they for conditions in America today?
23. If you shot someone in the face while drinking, how fast would the police show up to arrest you?
31. Are you glad liberals passed such programs as Social Security, Medicare, the Civil Rights Act, women's suffrage, federal deposit insurance, unemployment compensation, rural electrification, child labor laws, minimum wages and the 40-hour work week?
32. What are the Top Ten best things that conservatives have given to America?
And don't miss the questions about Donald Rumsfeld's hypothetical abilities as a wedding planner.
Candidates, reveal the bad news first!
This is the best political ad I've seen this year: Ned Lamont Has a Messy Desk. It's an official ad by the candidate, too, not some third-party group. Lamont's ad guy did other great ads in the past for other longshot candidates, too. Some of them even won.
Full disclosure: I hope Lieberman loses to Lamont, I've contributed a little money to Lamont, I am part of the left-wing blogosphere in thrall to my master Markos, blah blah blah.
Is this a meme I want to feed?
Below, I linked to a (Danish, I think) takeoff on "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Thanks to Colin at Middle Grey for finding this version, Total Eclipse of the Heart at 90 MPH!!!. Like he said, the two guys are fine, but the girl really has The Jim Steinman Attitude™. Totally worth wasting your valuable time.
