A Web Conference Done Right
Lord knows, I give enough crap to conferences that I think are stuck in their all-white-boy-speaker box (such as, say, this one) that it's very very nice to be able to recognize a conference that gets it right.
I'm happy to help announce the Voices That Matter Web Design Conference, to be held in San Francisco this October 22-25. You can read more about the conference at the Peachpit blog, in the post at Meet our Web design authors in person at our first Voices That Matter conference.
I'm not saying that they're doing it right because I'm on the speaker list, or because I've known some of the people behind it for about ten years, or because I plan to do more work for them in the future. I'm saying they're doing it right because I truly think that they are.
I've been telling Peachpit for years that, like O'Reilly, they should be getting into the conference business. I'm glad that they're doing it, and I'm especially glad to see it start in such an auspicious way.
Richardson flopped?
Interesting article in Slate by John Dickerson: The New Mexico governor self-destructs on Meet the Press. Surprising, as I hadn't heard that reported on the Dem blogs (hadn't read anything about the appearance, come to think of it). I suspect that Richardson will benefit from it having been a holiday weekend where people weren't paying much attention. Still, this will be a blow to his campaign, which was already playing catch-up.
