The Youth Fixation of the Tech Biz
Steve Levy:
The old wisdom for investors in start-ups said you needed an experienced hand as a CEO. The Valley's new wisdom: don't fund anyone over 30.
— A Boot Camp for the Next Tech Billionaires
Fred Wilson:
Prime time entrepreneurship is 30s. And its possibly getting younger as web technology meets youth culture.
— The Mid Life Entrepreneur Crisis
Fred Wilson (again):
Some of the most interesting things I've seen this month and this year are the creations of kids who barely shave. And it's not an accident.
— The Age Question (continued)
Me:
Q: What's the difference between the tech industry and NAMBLA?
— (originally over in John Welch's comments)
A: There isn't any; they both want young men—the younger the better—that they can screw.

Safari on Windows: 1 2 for 2 3
I went ahead and installed the Safari 3 beta for Windows, with mixed results: it works fine on XP running under Parallels on my MacBook. It appeared to install and launch fine on my Dell running Vista, but none of the menus appear, and some page content doesn't show up either. So I uninstalled it from the Vista box. I'll give it a try later with Vista on the MacBook under Boot Camp.
Update: Here I am updating this post with Safari on Vista, running via Boot Camp. Looks like there's something wonky with the Dell box. Swell. More time to be spent fixing Windows glitches.
And one more thing...
One more thing, after Steve's keynote today at WWDC…
Y'know last week's post on (How To) Hire Me? Add "iPhone developer" to that. Hey, I've got experience in Web standards, JavaScript, Ajax, Safari—you name it, if Steve mentioned it can be used to create iPhones apps, I've been doing it for the last few years. Need an iPhone app or an iPhone developer? Contact me. (Preference given to anyone who can give me an iPhone to test with!).
Sopranos postmortem
Quoth Patrick, over at Making Light, in a piece he titled Sopranos postmortem:
I feel a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out, “The fuck?”
That line is then followed by a lengthy comment thread full of spoilers which the participants are thoughtfully posting already translated into Rot-13. For those who don't have a Rot-13 bookmarklet already, here's one:
(I believe it works in Safari and Firefox; I offer no guarantees for IE.)
