I was right, even though I was wrong

Back in May, I wrote a post titled "I'm sure I'll regret this."

I was right about that.

The post was way wrong about the outcome of the GOP nomination, however. I said that "Republicans are royalists at heart, and they always nominate the guy whose turn it is. McCain's having a rough patch now, but as people and donors get a clearer view of Rudy and Mitt's flaws, they'll anoint McCain."

With the reports that McCain's fundraising has collapsed (Ron Paul has more cash on hand?) and today, that his entire top tier of campaign aides are out, I think it's almost time to stick a fork in him.

I still can't believe that Republicans will end up with Rudy, and Romney is spending lots of money, but hasn't gained any traction. Romney's poll numbers have barely budged, and he's still under 10% of Republicans in Gallup.

The Republicans may end up turning to Fred Thompson out of sheer desperation. But in the past few months, he hasn't exactly shown himself to be a superstar; reports of his speeches usually describe them as lackluster.
