The (psuedo-)Job Search (semi-)Continues
Three months ago when I wrote (How To) Hire Me, I thought I was up-front about "Hey folks, I need a job!" Given that I've received no corporate pings, I have to guess that I was being subtle, which is an odd idea for me—I've never thought of myself as the subtle type.
My guess in the past has been that the type of gig I've wanted isn't available, but this time, I know that's not the case. That's because (unlike what I predicted in the post linked above), I've come across at least three good possibilities just recently:
Technical Evangelist for Widgets (Konfabulator) and Devices at Yahoo!
Evangelist, Safari Technologies at Apple
JavaScript Guru at SitePen
None of those are perfect (or I'd be applying, not blogging!), but they look darned interesting, and they're exactly the type of gigs I thought would be insider-only.
My point? Well, I'm not exactly sure… I've spent much of the last couple of days updating my résumé (if you want to see it, ask!) and trying to figure out what I want to do next. If you have any ideas, or if you know of other cool gigs, or if you know of someone who could massage one of the above so that it's even cooler (e.g., travel is a plus, but moving is not), or, or…
Anyhow, this is me, trying to be less subtle, but still completely flexible. So keep me in mind, ok?
What I want
The next time I go into a voting booth and cast my vote for President of the United States, I want to vote for someone who honestly gives a crap. I'm not talking about some bullshit "I feel your pain" thing, either. I'm talking about someone who understands, really gets it, that his or her actions will have real consequences to the lives of every American. I want someone who not only knows what needs to be done, but why it should be done, and has a clear plan of how to get there. I want to see someone in office who can wipe away the foul stain of the soulless, greed-sucking Bush years, and who convinces me that they know that it is a moral imperative to do so.
That's why I'm rejecting the cool, technocratic campaigns of Obama and Hillary. It's not that I don't think they're smart; they are. It's not that I think they don't care; they do. It's that I don't believe that they see themselves as leading a crusade to make America better, and I don't think they really burn to set right what's gone so horribly wrong over the last seven years. I think they just want to be President.
That's why I'm supporting John Edwards for President. Health care is one of the most important issues for me, and this video from a campaign stop in New Hampshire shows that Edwards gets it. I completely agree with what Elizabeth Edwards says in the video, that if a candidate proposes to leave any American uninsured after their health care plan is enacted, then it's time to find another candidate. Watch it. It might convince you, too.
